December 3 – Monthly MeetUp

In December we are returning once again to the cozy environs of the Yosemite Valley Library/Girls Club to take time to appreciate nature and share some time together. There is so much to wonder at, even after the sun goes down.

Girls Club/Yosemite Valley Library Map
Here is a rough map to the Girls Club/Yosemite Valley Library in Yosemite Village in case you’re not sure where that is.

What to Expect:

Activities:

This evening we will have a bright and nearly-full moon overhead, so if the weather is good, there will be some opportunities for some after-dark discoveries. I have a small UV flashlight to search for scorpions, and we could check out soundscapes or journal about the moon itself.

I once again have permission to borrow some skulls from the Interp Department, so the invitation to participate in a “my secret skull” exercise is formally extended to all. You’re also welcome to bring something else that has captured your attention/curiosity if you prefer.

Bring:

  • Something to write with and on. Something to add some color with can also be fun. I’ll try to have some extra stuff if you forget, but a bit of printer paper and a pen or pencil is also just fine! The goal here is to slow down and observe the natural world around us, and put our insights and questions on paper.
  • A headlamp or other light – Since we have access to indoor space, lights would mostly be for navigating to and from the Girls Club in the dark, but if you wish to explore the evening outdoors as well, an extra light would be handy.
  • Your Curiosity and Wonder. The last thing on the list, but the most important.

Parking

Official public parking is at the main Village Parking area. Please contact me if some additional directions/suggestions would be helpful!
