March 4, 2026 – Monthly Meetup

March Meet-up Details

Date: Wednesday, March 4, 2026
Time: 5:30 – 7:30 pm
Location: Happy Isles Nature Center / Meet at the Bus Stop

Meeting Location

Note that we will need to use the back entrance since the nature center is closed for the season. Silvia, from Yosemite Conservancy, recommended that it might be easiest for us to meet at the bus stop at 5:30 pm and walk to the back entrance together. So, if you haven’t been to the back entrance before (I hadn’t until today), let’s meet at the bus stop, and we can walk back there together. (The snow is melting fast, but as of Feb 26, we will still need to walk through the snow to get to that entrance. It is not plowed or shoveled out.)

I also know that some of us are finishing work and might be running a little late, so I’ll also add some instructions on how to find that back entrance shortly.

Huge, huge thanks to Lora and Silvia for opening up their space for us and letting us explore! And also to Esther for getting the conversation with them rolling.

Possible Nature Journaling Explorations

I’m so excited to be able to explore all of the exhibits in the Happy Isles Nature Center with you! There are several wildlife displays with taxidermied animals that we can study up close, plant exhibits, and a cool microscope for an up-close view of some interesting specimens as well.

As a special treat, they also have some nature journal entries posted on the wall by some of their instructors. These art offerings are beautiful and worth a look as well.

What to Bring

  • Footwear appropriate for a bit of snow travel. The path to the back entrance has not been plowed and is currently uneven and snow-covered. It’s not far, but please be prepared to navigate this uneven walkway. If this could be difficult for you, please let me know in advance so we can make some accommodations.
  • Headlamp. The sun will still be up when we make our way back to the nature center, but it will have set by the time we are finished.
  • Something to write with and on. Something to add some color with can also be fun. I’ll try to have some extra stuff if you forget, but a bit of printer paper and a pen or pencil is also just fine! The goal here is to slow down and observe the natural world around us, and put our insights and questions on paper.
  • Your Curiosity and Wonder. The last thing on the list, but the most important.
