Let’s Nature Journal Together!

Date: September 5, 2024**

Time: 5:00 – 7:00 PM

Location: El Cap Bridge – near the picnic tables west of the bridge

** We will be meeting on the first Thursday of each month.

Who Should Come

If you love spending time in the outdoors, slowing down to pay close attention to what is around you, and keeping a record of what you noticed, and thought, then nature journaling is for you. You don’t have to be an expert naturalist, a brilliant artist, or a poet. Nature journaling holds space for plein air artists, writers, scientists, and people who are just curious about what’s out there.

I hope we’ll see you there!

What to Expect

Welcome: I’m so excited to meet and spend time with you! We’ll start with some brief introductions and discussion. Since this is a new group, let’s talk about the most fun ways we can come together and share nature journaling.

Nature Journaling: We’ll have an opportunity to nature journal. I love checking out all the meadow goings-on, or simply sitting by the river. This will not be a formal class, but if you’re new to journaling we’ll make sure you get up to speed.

Closing: An opportunity to share what we discovered and choose a location for our next meeting in October.

What to Bring

  • Nature Journaling Supplies – whatever you’d like to nature journal with
    • This could mean a sketchbook, pens, colored pencils, watercolors, and all the art supplies. Or it could mean a few pieces of paper and a pencil or pen.
    • Binoculars, hand lens, ruler/measuring tape – or just your eyes and ears.
    • Guidebooks or your favorite apps for looking things up – or your questions and imagination.
  • Personal Gear – we will be outside in the evening as the temperatures start to cool. Please bring what you need to be comfortable. A few suggestions:
    • Sun protection – hat, sunscreen, sun layers
    • Shoes you can walk around the meadow and trails in
    • Extra clothing layers as the day cools off
    • Water
    • Snacks
    • Insect repellent (I’ll have some extra if you forget)
