This is the Girls Club/Yosemite Valley Library building. To start, we will meet at the picnic tables behind the building – which would be to the far right in this photo.

What to Expect:

General Plan:

Sunset is at 6:41 pm on October 1, so in order to take advantage of the sunlight, we are going to get straight to nature journaling. If you’re running behind, keep an eye out for us between the Girls Club and Cooks Meadow.

For nature journaling activities, the invitation for today will be to nature journal something that you’ve never noticed before. Sometimes, when we are in a place that is familiar to us, it’s easy to let our eyes skim over what is going on. This invitation is designed to encourage us to look deeper, whether that is an unexpected relationship between two different things, or a previously unnoticed detail that you’re taking time to appreciate in more depth. Take a few moments to think about what it is about this thing/or these events that drew your attention today, and let your curiosity wander.

Bring:

  • Something to write with and on. Something to add some color with can also be fun. I’ll try to have some extra stuff if you forget, but a bit of printer paper and a pen or pencil is also just fine! The goal here is to slow down and observe the natural world around us, and put our insights and questions on paper.
  • Clothing layers to be ready for whatever the weather is going to throw at us.
  • Something to sit on (optional) – there is a picnic table with benches here, so this may be even less of a desire than some other locations, but if you want to move around, it could still come in handy, though finding a spot on a rock, log, or on the ground is also certainly an option.
  • A headlamp or other light – We are still clinging to a bit of after work evening light which we’ll do our best to take advantage of. Still, you may want to bring a light for navigating after sunset.
  • Your Curiosity and Wonder.
